Our Community

As part of our social responsibility to a community that has given us so much over the years in terms of providing reliable long term staff, Chengeta decided to give back. We realized the dire need for quality basic education in our community. Local children, who number over 260, were attending school in dilapidated schools miles away from home. Attendance was low as children would often have to walk for hours with empty stomachs to arrive at delapadated windowless shacks for a school where they would be met with stationary shortages and absent teachers. They sat on bricks and wore rags lacking money for uniform let alone tuition.

In 2008 Chengeta lodge stepped in and officially adopted Chengeta Primary School. With that came the building of 4 new school buildings with 2 classrooms, assembly hall, canteen, headmasters office and staff quarters, which continues today. Chengeta Safari Lodge now provides school fees for all the children as well as their food, water, textbooks and transport.  

Maintaining a project like this is a long process and we are continually looking for support and assistance to develop other areas of the school such as sport facilities, art equipment, science equipment and teacher training. In fact the list extends far beyond these few things. If you would like to get involved please do not hesitate to contact us. All funds and contributions received are 100% put back into the school. 

As well as looking after the school, we insure that any building materials such as thatching grass and timber are sourced locally from the surrounding communities, as is the skilled and unskilled labor for these projects. In this way we insure that the community benefits directly. Tours through the community and school are on the list of activities, which promotes growth and development within our community.
